Belfast Harbour Welcomes Aflac NI to City Quays
Aflac Northern Ireland leases office space for new Centre for Advanced Technology
Aflac Northern Ireland announced today that the company has signed a 10-year lease with Belfast Harbour for more than 11,000 square feet of office space at City Quays for its Global IT and Cybersecurity Innovation Centre. This space allows Aflac Northern Ireland to grow its existing operation to 130 employees by 2023.
Aflac announced the establishment of the new centre last autumn as part of a multimillion-pound investment in Northern Ireland. The centre will add to the existing cybersecurity and innovation teams in the U.S. and Japan and will support customers and growth in both of these current Aflac markets.
A Georgia (U.S.)-headquartered company listed at No. 143 on the Fortune 500, Aflac is a leading supplemental insurance provider in the life and health category in the United States and Japan, providing financial protection to more than 50 million people worldwide.
“City Quays offers an ideal location for technology innovation with its modern facilities and amenities,” said Keith Farley, managing director and vice president of Aflac Northern Ireland. “This lease is another sign of our commitment to the long-term success of this centre and the community of Belfast.”
Belfast’s newest and most modern mixed-use regeneration project, City Quays provides commercial offices, shops, cafes, restaurants, hotels and other local services right on Belfast’s waterfront. The growth of Northern Ireland’s knowledge economy, coupled with its high-speed data connectivity, places City Quays as the ideal location for fintech and digital businesses.
Joe O’Neill, CEO of Belfast Harbour, said:
“City Quays has a wide range of tenants across multiple sectors and we are delighted to welcome Aflac to the Belfast Harbour community following their selection of City Quays 2 as the home for their new Belfast centre.
“Intrinsic to Belfast Harbour’s property strategy is a commitment to develop flexible space in a manner which aligns with our tenants’ requirements, helping create an economic hub with like-minded tenants at City Quays aligned with the City’s ambitions. There are currently over 5,500 workers based in City Quays and Clarendon Dock, and our ambition is that City Quays on completion will accommodate 13,000 people living and working on Belfast’s waterfront.”
